Each year IUPAC endorses a large number of independently organized conferences, symposiums and workshops that cover a wide range of specialized topics in chemistry. Endorsement by IUPAC attests to the quality of the scientific program and indicates the host country’s assurance that scientists from all countries may participate. The conference must be located in a country represented in IUPAC by a National Adhering Organization. See program details.

Global Challenges in Neglected Tropical Diseases

  • This event has passed.

The aim of this International conference is to bring participants from North, Central and South America together, as well as from other regions where tropical diseases are prevalent, to discuss new approaches to combat neglected tropical diseases. Another purpose is to elevate the awareness of neglected tropical diseases, particularly in Latin America, as well as to stimulate medicinal chemists in these countries to conduct research in the field by making contacts between laboratories in America and other parts of the world. With the latter in mind, one to one meetings between participants will be arranged.

The theme is of particular significance at the present time since in Latin America and the Caribbean millions live in poverty and these populations are heavily burdened with neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), among others.

The 1st International conference on Global Challenges in Neglected Tropical Diseases was held 13-15 July 2016 in León, Spain [link to 2016 event]
