OPCW-IUPAC Safety Training Programme E-Learning in Spanish

The first ONLINE  OPCW-IUPAC Safety Training Programme E-Learning Course for Member States in the Latin America and the Caribbean Region has started!

The virtual STP will run from 4 OCT to 3 DEC 2021

The objective of the training is to provide an update on the current standards, policies, and best practices in occupational safety, chemicals hazards, handling, storage, and transport of chemicals and waste management. It has been designed for representatives of chemical companies, research institutions, and specialised agencies from the OPCW.

This training is co-organised by the OPCW and the Chemical Industries Association of Uruguay, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay and with the joint financial support of the OPCW and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). See more details @OPCW

22 persons have applied in the STP e-learning from 13 countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, and Uruguay, and 15 participants have been selected from all of the countries above.

The content of the course includes e-learning and real-time/interactive sessions and is divided into five main modules:

Module 1: Safety (2 weeks):
Basic concepts, Safety, Health, Environment and Security (SHE&S), accident costs, accident causes, statistical study on accidents, accident investigation, hazard identification, risk assessment, and preventive and protective controls.

Module 2: Chemicals (3 weeks):
Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals, physical hazards, health and environmental hazards, handling, storage, United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, waste management, and green chemistry.

Module 3: Security (1 week):
Duties and responsibilities, security risk assessment, identification of vulnerable points, protection of people, protection of physical and intellectual property, protection of a company’s reputation, preventing assets being used to cause harm, control measures, and the OPCW.

Module 4: Emergencies (1 week): First aid after exposure to chemicals, fire and explosions intervention, spill control, emergency preparedness and response.

Module 5: Management and culture (1 week):
ISO114.000 and ISO 45.000 standards, integrated management systems (Quality, Safety, Health, Environment and Security – QSHE&S), Responsible Care®, ISO 26.000 (social responsibility), United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and safety culture.
